The Core Lecture Course In British Culture and Society

A core lecture course on aspects of British (and European) culture and society is offered for one recommended US semester credit in the Fall and Winter terms. The course brings the entire group who come through WISC (and its related programs) together. Lectures (and discussions) in history, literature, politics, law, philosophy, economics, etc. are offered by some of the best scholars and lecturers in Oxford including Sir David Yardley, DPhil (law), Margaret Clerici, DPhil (English literature), Professor Ralph Hanna, PhD, a Chair in English, Michael Hurst, DLitt, FRHS (history and politics) and Sir John Johnson, MA, (international relations). Sir John is a former British Ambassador and Oxford graduate program director.

"I found Trinity College to be a very friendly, cosy college with helpful staff and a top-notch librarian. I felt very welcome and would not have wanted to be with any other college." EB, Northwestern University

Five educational tours a term (plus personal visits to historic sites sometimes arranged by tutors) are an integral part of the core course. There are usually lectures before each tour. Let us know in advance if you wish to enroll in this course.

This course is arranged by WISC upon the recommendation of several Study Abroad Advisers and is in addition to the Oxford University curriculum for Visiting Students. Termly exams will be based on the reading and lectures.
