RECORDS OF ACADEMIC WORK

At the end of your period in Oxford official tutorial reports showing your academic record will be sent from your Oxford Academic Adviser directly to your home institution with copies to such other parties as you request, as soon as possible after the end of the term in which you complete your studies. Normally this will not be later than two months after the termination of your stay in England. Perhaps once or twice a year one tutor gets a report in late.

Students should remember that many U.S. colleges do not count overseas grades in your grade point average, nonetheless the grades will be on your records, and may be used for your graduate applications etc.

"WISC was very helpful and very efficient. This is one of the best JYA programs that I have heard of."
PF, Hollins College

The Academic Advisers at each college naturally word their reports differently. In Michaelmas (Fall) term 1994 a student from Dartmouth received the following typical report addressed to her registrar.

"I enclose the termly tutorial reports for one of your students __________ who has been in Oxford for the Michaelmas (Fall) term as an associate (non-graduating) student of (our college).

"As you know this student is a candidate for a degree in your college (she has not been a candidate for a degree in Oxford Univeristy) and it is entirely the prerogative of your college to decide how much (if any) credit you wish to award for the academic work accomplished during her time here.

"Neither Oxford University or (our college) is ever able to award credit for the degree of another University.

"This student has been taught by tutors who normally teach degree candidates in Oxford, in the same way and to the same standard.

"This student's tutors have each provided tutorial reports which describe the academic work supervised by them and an analysis of the student's strengths and weaknesses, together with a grade assigned by the tutor.

" For your information I enclose a chart giving the equivalent grades in numbers normally used in most U.S. colleges.

"This student has been asked to retain the tutorial papers written together with any reading lists which may assist you in properly evaluating the work of this student.

"Should you wish any further information I can be contacted at (our college)."

Visiting Students receive similar letters and tutorial reports authorized by Oxford University. The wording is essentially similar to the wording of academic reports given to one-year, non-matriculated students of other British universities (Durham, Kent, etc).

A few US colleges prefer that their students are academically supervised by a US accredited four-year BA granting institution. Qualified students have the option of enrolling as overseas students of one of the US colleges which works with WISC on a regular basis. Such accepted students will receive a transcript detailing their accomplishments with American grades. This process often makes the transfer of financial aid and student loans easier. Students should let WISC know if this opportunity would be helpful to them.
